US Department of State-World Learning Grant

An Approach from Zero Order Responder and Saturday Research Academy in Disaster Risk Management

 

Introduction 

The US Department of State-World Learning  funded a study of the Lessons from the 2017 Hurricane Season in Dominica and Puerto Rico. Dr. Juan F. Arratia was the lead researcher of this study in partnership with  Dr. Fernando Briones and Dr. Ryan Vachon  from University of Colorado, Boulder. Also in the Spring 2019 a second grant from the US Department-Word Learning was awarded to Dr. Juan F. Arratia to implement a Saturday Research Academy in Disaster Risk Management in partnership with  Professor Ashly Morales from Pontificia  Universidad Catolica de Santo Domingo (PUCMM).

Objectives 

The objective for An Approach from Zero Order Responder was to visit Puerto Rico and Dominica and collect data from Zero Order Responders and produce a Video of their experiences.  The objective for Saturday Research Academy in Disaster Risk Management was to implement a 16-weeks, after school STEM research program at the campus facilities of PUCMM.
