Major Research Instrumentation: Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar (AMISR)

Introduction

The Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar (AMISR) is a $2.3 million NSF Grant: AGS-1039593 (2010-2017). This is a MRI Proposal of UMET to lead an ambitious international effort that aims to create a Global Scale Ionospheric Plasma laboratory by placing two National Science Foundation (NSF) Incoherent Scatter Radars (ISR) at both ends of the same geomagnetic field line.  Dr. Juan F. Arratia was the Director and Principal Investigator of this grant in partnership with Stanford Research International (SRI) and CONICET from Argentina.
